Angelo990 Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 Hello Everyone! installed filemaker pro 5.5 on PCs & Macs. I am only able to connect to the host (filemaker server) from PCs. The Mac OS 9 clients can't see the server via the Host option from within filemaker pro 5.5. first time ever installing/configuring/working with any version of filemaker. Thanks for your help!!!
andygaunt Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 Check your appletalk settings on the mac and also your network protocol in Application preferences for filemaker (found in Edit > Preferences > Application)
Steven H. Blackwell Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 ndeed no user should ever be able to do this over the network. Tht would indicate that file sharing had been enabled, a highly fatal set of circumstances in most every instance. Old Advance Man
andygaunt Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 Yes, With FM Server, the served databases must be in the FM Server folder or within a folder in the FM server folder.
andygaunt Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 And everyone should pay attention to what their elders say! . FM Server should be dedicated to that one application. no filesharing, minimal extensions. Basically do not mess about with it. You spend so much time creating your databases, don't leave them open to damage from an outside source.
Angelo990 Posted February 27, 2002 Author Posted February 27, 2002 Thanks so much, that did it!!! on other note, It only seems akward the fact that the user cannot place their newly created files directly onto the database on the server (filemaker server). The admin actually has to drag it to the subfolder under filemaker server. Am I doing/understanding this right? Thanks
