I'm not sure where to post this question so I'll try this forum. I have "lost" my toolbars and can not get them to "return" frown.gif The View/Toolbars item is grayed out and none of my toolbars are displayed. I've verified all my document and application preferences with no luck and I do not have any scripts that use the AllowToolbars command. I am running a Mac G4 with OS 10.1.4 and FM 5.5v1.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

One of your scripts has performed the "Allow Toolbars [off]" script step. Make a script to perform the step "Allow Toolbars [on]" to activate them again.

Vaughn,

Wish it were that easy. Did just as you suggested but it didn't work. I don't have any scripts that issue the command but I wrote one that allowed toolbars anyway and ran it - no luck. Still scratching my head confused.gif .

Does the file have a master password? Is the current password set up with limited access to menus?

Are the Document Preferences set up to run a startup script?

Vaughn,

Thanks for your quick responses. I have trashed my preferences and started a new database with no scripts of any kind, including startup. No passwords, no anything except one plain text field so the db would be defined. Still no toolbars - just a grayed out item in the drop down View menu. I'm not sure I mentioned this but I'm using FM Unlimited. I doubt if this makes a difference as the FM part should be much the same as FM Pro 5.5 with some goodies added. I guess if nothing else works I'll have to do a reinstall frown.gif

Again, thanks for your attempts to help. You must be up quite early. It is getting late and today was Father's Day so we did a bit of celebrating. I'll give FM a rest for now and hit it again in the AM with a clearer head.

Have a great day.

Something must be wrong: test on a different computer and see if the menu commands are working there. It may require reinstalling FMP.

I'm not up early, you're just behind my time zone. Fathers Day is in September around here.

Vaughan,

After reinstalling FM and still not getting toolbars I checked out the FMI tech section and found the following:

ISSUE:

Under Mac OS X (any Rev) with FileMaker Pro 5.5v1 and FileMaker Pro 5.5v2, Toolbars cannot be selected either in Browse mode or in Layout mode. The option for Toolbars under the View menu is grayed out.

RESOLUTION:

As documented in the FileMaker Pro 5.5 Readme for Mac OS X section 2.1.1. "FileMaker Pro 5.5 does not support toolbars in Mac OS X. All features are fully accessible from the menu bar."

This is specific to Mac OS X only. Installing the Mac OS 9 version of FileMaker Pro 5.5 while under Mac OS 9 will then enable you to boot FileMaker Pro in Classic mode once booted into Mac OS X. This will enable you to utilize the Toolbars while under Mac OS X.

FileMaker, Inc. has confirmed this issue with the FileMaker products listed.

Guess I'll have to wait for 5.6. Thanks for your help in trying to solve the problem.
