July 11, 200223 yr Since no ones wishes made it into FM 6, lets waste more of our time by wishing for a better 7.0. For this wish list, let's do something different: just say what we do NOT what to change/add, that will make it easier. So here it goes: 1. ..... I'm stumped.
July 12, 200223 yr oh come on, the list of filemaker's strengths is longer than any lady canine list anyone could ever make. even with 6, i'll match any negatives with positives across the board. that said, i say we start this off properly. here's my often copied and pasted and posted list: --Field level script triggers (i.e. got focus, lost focus, on change) --Field data masks (phone numbers, social security numbers) --Comments in calculations --Print Relationships & layout names --Import fields & layouts from other tables --Better validation
July 13, 200223 yr LETS NOT GO CRAZY MAN! Maybe the first two (or a couple of others), but if it was like C++ or Java or cost $5000 for a developer license, or $1000 per seat, like front-ends of SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase. Ease of development & implementation, bang for the buck, fills a niche market. I think it currently fulfills the vision of FMI, and sales show it. A good desktop (work group) database, NO FORMAL PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE (scripting), easy layouts (& reports), built-in search, relational (although 1-level), Web, XML & SQL compliance, multi-platform. If they felt those more complex features NEEDED to be included, they would have done so, and marketed those features as such. Keep it simple and let it grow. There is elegance in simplicity; the developer community has implemented FM solutions on all levels excellently. *** Legitimate 'bugs' do need fixing *** KM
