Possible File Corruption

Featured Replies

I periodically do a "save a compressed copy" for the files in my application. Today after doing that, one of the files would not open saying "the access pivileges of this file appear to be damaged, contact FileMaker Inc." I had a backup so that is not a problem for now. But I am wondering if this file is heading south, and why would it be working before the "save" but not after.

Thanks

Since the internal file format is pretty much a mystery not disclosed by FMI, it's a little hard to say. I'd take your last good copy and perform a Recovery command on it (I'd make a bunch of backups, until this problem is resolved), then try to save a compressed copy of the recovered file.

If you have a disk error occurring, corruption of this type can develop, regardless of how good your procedures are. If you haven't done so already, running diagnostics with a disk utility would be a good safeguard.

You might also find it worthwhile to check out the freeware 'Field Inspector' for FileMaker Pro from Protolight, at:

Not necessarily directly relevant to your specific 'access privileges' error message, but a good diagnostic tool to have access to nontheless...

Thanks Live Oak ! I did what you suggested and it worked. Whew... I was not looking forward to rebuilding the entire file. Also thanks for your input Cobalt Sky. And final thanks to FM Forums, simply the Best.
