peterlacenne Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 Hi, is it possible to unable user to create new database with FM. We only use FM as a client to connect FMServer. thanks
andygaunt Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 In FileMaker version 5.5, there is an option you can check ( I think when installing the software) that allows you the administrator to turn off the new database option.
Anatoli Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 If the user is allowed to create database, he/she can create one on any accessible volume.
Natalie Posted November 29, 2002 Posted November 29, 2002 There is no thin client for FileMaker, except runtime.
Newbies RobinG Posted November 29, 2002 Newbies Posted November 29, 2002 A lot of client server systems have a client application available which is totally passive and doesn't offer features such as the facility to create or change files, only to interact with files on the server. Those applications are called 'Thin Client' applications. That will be what Natalie is referring to. FileMaker doesn't have a thin client version available, you have to use the full desktop version to act as client.
Anatoli Posted November 30, 2002 Posted November 30, 2002 Thanks. I am still totally lost in "There is no thin client for FileMaker, except runtime." Runtime is definitely not "thin client", because cannot connect to the server. And as relevance to this topic... hmm
