Hi there people,

I have been reading the forums for about 2 days now and thought I'd say hi.

I have a couple of problems that I was wondering if anyone could help me with, I have done a search for it before I'm asking and couldn't find a good answer to is (as I'm new to FM and didn't understand it)

Anyhow, here are the questions:

1. I have a database with names and numbers that I input but also copy paste into, I have set the fields to a certain font and font size, but overtime I paste into a field it doesn't paste it as the format I have set, I know it can be done but I haven't found an 'idiots guide' to it.

2. I need to create a 'find' feature within a layout that can find anything in any field within the database.

This has all been said before but I can't seem to find anything on the net anywhere.

If someone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Cheers peeps.

I'm sure I have more but think this is good for now. laugh.gif

2nd question first:

create a calculation field and define it as:

YourField1 & " " & YourField2 & " " & YourField3 ...etc.

Make sure the result is set to "Text"

This is called a concatenated field (where you make one field that combines other fields into one. The &'s connect the components and the " "'s add spaces between them.

You can then perform finds in that field.

As for the second question... I know there is a better way but when I am copying from the web, I copy the content, then paste it into the address bar (where there is no formatting), then copy it again (from the address bar), and then paste it in FileMaker. Since there is no formatting in the address bar, it pastes in the default for the field.

Alternatively, if you do this a lot, you could set up a script to do the pasting. Use the script step "Paste" and select the option to "Paste without style".

If you want to fix records that already have the wrong style, you could set up a look to go through the records and copy/clear/paste without style

Thanks, I'll try the find thing in a mo.

I found a long way of doing the Text Formatting:

1. create a an empty field

2. then create a button and script it like [color:"red"] this...

3. then within every record press the button and the fileds will text format to whatever you set the field to.

I have tried every other way of doing this and didn't get far at all.

What this script does is to copy from field 'a' then paste it into field 'b' not too complicated but this will automaticly take you out of the filed 'a' so that when you pate back into filed 'a' from 'b' it'll 'paste without style' into it, because you're not in that field.

I couldn't get 'paste without style' to work any other way.

Kia.
