February 28, 200322 yr Is there a simple method to determine if 2 records are identical in _all_ fields in a database? And if not identical, which field(s) differ? We have a continual problem where users are duplicating records by pressing Ctrl-D, when they meant to press Ctrl-F to initiate a new find. There is a strict unique key, but the field is not required, and FM somehow permits non-unique keys when records are duplicated! Currently I search for duplicates with ! but then have to manually check more than 175 fields (excl calcs, globals, etc). An alternative would obviously be to not permit creation of new records, but this is not a realistic option. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Wendy

March 3, 200322 yr I manage a network of about 12 Macs and have installed QuickKeys on all machines. I use QuickKeys to display a message when Command-E (delete Record) or Command-D (duplicate Record) are typed in FileMaker Pro (a message telling them they are not allowed to use the keyboard shortcut to delete or duplicate) It's worked great for the last few years and has virtually eliminated accidental duplications and deletions and does not affect the keyboard shortcuts of other programs. I like this solution because even those of us here with passwords which allow us to duplicate and delete can accidentally hit the wrong key while trying to enter find mode.
