veganboyjosh Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 hello all. i'm having a problem and i don't know where to start looking for help solving it. i have shortcuts to our db's on our desktop (windows xp) and in order to open them, i click on the shortcut icon. but occasionally, the db's won't open. the computer will pause, and then nothing. no "file not found" or any other kind of error message. the only solution i've found so far is to restart the computer. this works for a bit, but eventually, the same thing happens and i can't open it again. very frustrating. any ideas? thanks in advance for your help. josh
Ugo DI LUCA Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 Does your shortcup opens File Maker Application at least ?
veganboyjosh Posted March 4, 2003 Author Posted March 4, 2003 right now i have 4 databases. the "job file" needs the 2 others open to operate due to relationships and lookups. so when i open it, the others open automatically. the 4th i use for billing purposes, so only need it sporadically. i use a shortcut to the job file to open filemaker when i need it, as this opens the other db's by itself. right now i have a shortcut on the desktop, as well in the quickmenu. when this problem occurs, i can't open filemaker with either of these. i can't even open it with the actual icon (not the shortcut) in the folder where it resides. the only solution i've found is a restart.
Will Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 The next time you click one of the short cuts or the executable and it does not open do a ctrl-alt-delete, click "task manager" and click the processes tab - see if FileMaker Pro.exe is in the "image name" column - if it is highlight it and click the "end process" tab. Then try opening the file again. Let us know if that works.
