duplicating field problem

Featured Replies

I am a beginner, so please be gentle. I'm on a MAC using OSX.

I have just started using filemaker 5 and have run into this problem. When I want to move a field in the layout mode, I click on the field and drag it to the desired position. Unfortunately what happens is the field is duplicated and the 'specify field' window pops up. The only way I can move a field in the layout is with the arrow keys. I'm sure this isn't normal, can anyone help me. I just want to move fields around.

Thanks

Gary

I thought I had seen a post on this before but I can't find it now...

Any chance your Option key is down? or that your mouse is emulating an option-down state?

There was a post on this, probably in the Macintosh forum. I don't remember how or if the problem was resolved. But, it could have been a problem with an earlier version of OSX (10.1 or earlier) or an earlier version of Filemaker. Make sure you are running the latest FM update of 5.0. Very likely, you will have to upgrade to version 6.0 to solve the problem. I think the main reason that FMI released 5.5 was for OSX compatibility.

I was perplexed by the same problem when I began using FM under OS X. I found that problem is more than just duplicating fields. Text and objects will also duplicate when dragged in Layout Mode when you run FM 5 under Mac's OS X. If you reboot in OS 9, the duplicating field, text, etc. problem in the Layout Mode will be eliminated.

Upgrading to FM 6, if you can afford it, is a quicker way to get around the problem.
