Newbies mpardo Posted April 3, 2003 Newbies Posted April 3, 2003 I have a client who runs a catering business that needs a database to track his beverages. Basically, a party is planned, a certain amount of beer, soda and liquor is pulled from inventory and a certain amount comes back unused. My filemaker skills do not extend to this level and I need some help. If you are interested, please let me know. Mike
Rangoon Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Depends on what your client is looking for. If he wants a standard style of restaurant "touch screen" solution, FMP doesn't support it. A good choice may be going to www.filemaker.com/solutions/find_solution.html and look for a straight forward "ready to go" solution from FMP Developers. Go to the web page and look at whats abailable. Just pick a platform, look through the "Market" window and take a look at what they have. Many of them come with source code so you can modify them after the purchase to fit your specific needs. If you want to do it on your own, FileMaker has an inventory file that came with your software. You can download it from the FileMaker Web page if you don't have it. It's a little simplistic, but may be a place to start. If you don't have it, another very good solution for you to look at is also on the FMP Web page called "FileMaker Solution Framework". It is very well done and is a rock solid foundation to start with if you want to go that direction. You can also pay one of we humble developers $50,000.00 (just as a retainer of course)to custom build it for you! Let us know how you do. hj PS. I was kidding about the $50,000.00 none of us work that cheap!
danjacoby Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 There are probably a number of solutions available that could be useful to you; finding the right one is another matter. As far as having a database custom-made, there are several people on the boards here who have the skills to get you exactly what you want. Of course, we aren't exactly cheap, but $50,000 is a bit excessive -- may I place a bid at $49,500? Seriously, if you decide to outsource this one, post a request on the "Services/Solutions Wanted" board in the Classified section of these boards; you'll get a bunch of responses (including -- modest cough here -- my own).
Rangoon Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Ok, Ok, maybe I was a little too vigorus. Lets say $49,495.00 and lets just keep the "Old Hand" dealing cards! The "Old Hand" tells the story of the Two vultures boarding an airplane; each is carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at them and says, "I'm sorry, gentlemen, only one carrion allowed per passenger. hj
Rangoon Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 Old Hand I know what your doing here. You're trying to get this down to a point where ability and design comes into play. So you've seen my work hu. Man you are just diabolical! hj
danjacoby Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 Haven't seen your work -- have you done any? BTW, I'm not that old.
Rangoon Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 I've done work once. Or maybe I was just thinking real strong about it. I'm sure it was one or the other. And I never said you were old! Cranky maybe, but not old! hj
