Draging field copies field instead of moving it

Featured Replies

This happens across all databases in the particular FM 5 install. If you are in layout mode and you want to drag a field to move it elsewhere in the layout it duplicates that field instead. How can I get it back to just move a field when I drag it?

I checked all the preferences and menus but can't find any setting that would seem to create this behavior.

Thanks for your help.

upgrade to FileMaker six or use MacOs 9

1. what platform are you on, Mac or Windows?

2. If on Mac, are you holding down the Option key while you drag? This is would cause the element you are dragging to duplicate. There is a similar thing on Windows, but I don't know what the key is.

If that doesn't work, you might try reinstalling FileMaker. Sometimes it works and it is easier than figuring out where the problem originates!

Good luck

In any os win once I select a field it is a very simple drag and drop. Multpile selects = shift click. are you using cntrl click?

It's a known bug when using FM 5 on OSX. Christian has the correct solution.
