Two files one serial number

Featured Replies

Hello

I have two files were I record data from research.

The thing is that, even if they have diferent fields, I need them to have the same sequential serial number.

I introduce data on both depending the kind of data, but I realy need only one serial number for reports.

I imput data directely on the files (a and : or using FM Mobile

Any help

Thanks

If you always only have the same number of records in both files, you should be able to just set up an auto-enter serial number field in both files. When importing or entering the serial numbers should be allocated in the same way.

That will require the same starting point and exactly the same transactions.

Better will be to post new record with known S/N to the other file to new record there. IMHO -- it will be better in sync.

i'm assuming the serial numbers correspond to something, some other piece of data, like a date or a time or a certain test. if so....

it sounds like it might make more sense to have these two db's in one. the "different" databases could be different layouts, but for the same serialized item.

if there is another reason to have 2 files, (which doesn't affect your problem) then you could have all the information into the first db, but then have a calc field in the 2nd db which references the number from the first db. '
