dbhill Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 On a peer-to-peer Mac network with the filehost machine running standard FileMaker v.6, can I backup my FileMaker solution to an external hard drive without closing the files, using Retrospect? I know that a Finder-copy of open FileMaker files is a no-no, but is it safe with Retrospect? ~Dennis
ernst Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 Hi Dennis, No that does not work. Files are busy, so either retrospect or Filemaker (when trying to run the backed up files) will return an error. Ernst.
Anatoli Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 You can do backup with FM server without closing the files. Alternative will be to have FM clones ready. And then export all data from FM files. That can run without shutting down the FM. In case of disaster you will have to import FM records into clones and check the autoenter serial numbers.
dbhill Posted August 8, 2003 Author Posted August 8, 2003 Thanks to both of you for very useful information. I hadn't thought of importing to a clone, I will look into that. Gratefully, ~Dennis
