I'm moving Filemaker Pro v5.x files from a Mac platform where they were created to a new Win XP platform (running Filemaker Pro v5.x) & can't open the files after they are copied over.

The files copy OK & are recognized, but the squiggly indicator comes up while trying to open, then error message. "xxxx file cannot be found & is required for this operation"

I can open the files on the Xp when they are hosted on the Mac as a guest. I can also open new files created on the Xp platform OK.

I can't save or ercover the files to the Xp platform from the Mac either.

Anybody with suggestions ??

I'm no window person, but as a Mac guy, I used to not bother to put a file extension such as .fp5 on my files. Windows requires this, so you may need to put this on to get them to open. This might mean you have to re point your scripts, relationships, etc.

If your files were already using the suffix of .fp5 then it is something else.

BTW, there is a problem with the setting of user and multiuser, and the read only settings, when transferring files via CD. You might check those settings to see that they are proper.

Sorry I can't be more help

Update, it seems I can copy the files to a specific folder under XP, but if I move the files or folder from the original location it renders the files unreadable. If I move it back to the original location they are useable again.

Any XP wizards out there ??
