Is there a way that I could creat a script or something so that whenever an employee makes a change to a field in a current record it brings up a splash screen asking them if they are sure that they want to change this record?

I don't want to lock them out of being able to edit current records but I do want them to be reminded that they are changing it.

This happens because sometimes they think they are in "Find" mode when they are actually in "browse" and before they know it they have changed the record field and can't remember what it was before.

What you need to do is to control when they can edit a record. What I generally do is to put them into a browse screen, where they cannot edit any of the fields. If they need to edit, they can click a button which puts them into an edit screen of global fields. At this point they can be reminded that they are editing an existing record and would they like to save or cancel. I also do NOT allow them to do finds directly from the data entry screens, take them to a find dialog and this will prevent the behavior.
