October 15, 200322 yr Does anyone know of a way to turn this dumb message off? There must be some mechanism to disable that message, which occurs if you press a key while on a filemaker layout but have not actually click in a field. The particular layout I have has no fields on it (a locked screen layout) and if a key is pressed that error message comes up. Filemaker then stops whatever its doing until the OK button is pressed. As a workaround, I'm using a third party software product called Buzof which automatically dismisses dialogs you specify. But, its a messy work around Cheers! Steve
October 15, 200322 yr Author LOL.... Tell that to the couple hundred people that walk up to the kiosk
October 15, 200322 yr Unplug the keyboard. Ok. Ok... put the cursor into a field on the layout into which the user's errant key strokes can be typed.
October 15, 200322 yr I am glad you did take my advice with humor Maybe Vaughan idea is workable... Black on black will be invisible, but what if someone will press Enter?
October 16, 200322 yr Author Unfortunately can't do that either. This really should be an option that can be turned on or off... Very annoying. Someone gimme Filemakers source code so i can fix it! The problem is peeple. Never underestimate the ability of random strangers to completely wreck your filemaker solution by doing something completely bizzare that you - never in a zillion years - would have thought of doing! This solution is actually controlled with a UDP stream from a master computer. I can execute scripts remotely on the machines at will. The problem is that if that "Before Typing" dialog is present, the scripts of course won't run. Steve
October 16, 200322 yr Author LOL. Can't do that either. OK - so solution actually runs an internet cafe. so once the kiosk is 'unlocked' then the customer needs to be able to use the keyboard and mouse
October 16, 200322 yr Hmm then probably you are toasted, sorry, my brain cannot think of something better...
March 6, 200421 yr Author LOL!!! Thats actually the way around it thanks! What i did was created a field that uses a calculation to run a script on field change and the script simply clears the field, resets the layout and returns it to the same config. Thanks Vaughn - I owe you a Tooheys!
March 7, 200421 yr How is it running a script on field change? Is it using a plugin to do this? Does the user have to tab out of the field for the script to run?
March 8, 200421 yr When I was in FNQ I drank a lot of XXXX, or Fosters. For some strange reason I don't drink much anymore...
