Cut & Paste in Kiosk Mode

Featured Replies

Being a professional Chef Instructor, getting into FM development arena is a new curve so bear with me.

I have a developed a Professional Chef Association Branch Management system which seems to be working extremely well except for one particular little quirk. Why can I not get a simple CUT & PASTE to run inside kiosk mode? All we seem to get is a little HEX square.

Also, is there any third party software out there that will give me the KIOSK effect but without that hideous black screen, with little or no access to other windows programs accept by use of the ALT-TAB keys?

Thanks

Hello Roy,

Kiosk mode disables menus and keyboard commands, requiring that users use the mouse to perform all actions, via buttons you provide on the layouts. That;s the wholoe point of it. If you want users to copy and paste, you will have to provide buttons that invoke the copy and paste commands.

You haven't said, but I assume that copy and paste are failing because you are trying to perform those actions in a kiosk solution, but using the keyboard rather than the mouse.

As regards your other question, I believe there are a few plug-ins around that provide various levels of 'simulation' of kiosk mode, however the only one I'm specifically aware of is 'Display Toolbox' from Protolight:

From what you're saying, you might also want to check out plug-ins that can remove or modify FileMaker's menus, as this can provide some of the kind of functionality of kiosk mode, but in a more moderate way - and without the black surrounds. Examples include MenuControl from Dacons International and MenuMagic from New Millennium Communications. cool.gif

While a kiosk has some advantages, there is also bad along with the good. A kiosk on a windows platform does not really give your users access to the desktop (I don't know what happens on a Mac). I have recently abandoned my kiosk in favor of a runtime with Dacons Menu Control, which is incompatible with New Millenium's Secure Menu. The Dacons Menu Control is easy to use, and replaces Filemaker's menus with your own design.
