Having problems with windows XP. I am having a problem with my solution in Windows XP but not in other windows environments. Every time I run a find on a windows XP box the system hangs. If I do the same in Win 2000 or Win 98 or Apple OSX there is no such problem.

Hi, Mark! Not that I know an answer, anyway, but do you mean XP hangs when you open the db or do you mean XP hangs when connecting to the db through the network? If the former, maybe there are updates you need to install to work w/XP... I can't recall if XP was out yet when FM5 came out, but I don't think so... in that case, FM probably came out w/an XP update.

Updates are free and downloadable from the FileMaker site.

Maybe a Windows FMFORUMS person will be more familiar with your problem, though?

I am using FM6. It always hangs when I do a search particularly when there are a lot of found records. This is driving me mad. I can not work at the moment.

Is your XP up to date? I don't know if there's a service pack but there should be!

MS seem to have fiddled with some of the standard(?) APIs in XP.

I have had some really weird problems running FMD V6 runtimes on XP.

Thanks for all the help Paul and Steve, I have found the solution to the problem although I am still hanging the system more often than before XP. I have changed the memory allocation in the preferences window to 1500K. Basically it never used to hang before in all the years that I have used FM there was only one instance of it hanging and that was due to printer issues. I always keep all windows patches up to date.
