Hi there, now i have a client that have a LAN with 3 PC. All of them contain FM6 pro and my solutions. I just want to ask what are the best way to open the hosted files from network, create a shortcut of the main file to desktop or create another file on client PC that have a script to open the hosted files.

The other questions is if now i need to install 2 same copy of my solutions(ex. Accounting for 2 different company) on the same PC and run both of them using fmpro, how can i seperate it nicely, because i can't splite it to two windows. Now what i do is save them into 2 different folder and using a mainmenu to select different company, i just want to know is there got any other better way to do this?

Thank you

Regards,

Henry

Hi, Henry!

To have everyone use your db's on the LAN, keep them open and running on 1 of them as a server (sharing > multi-user). To connect, a user would run FileMaker and either use the OPEN REMOTE comand or go to OPEN... and click on HOSTS button to select your db's.

To let another company use a 2nd set of db's on the same server, you should probably rename the 2nd set of databases so you can tell them apart. The directory location or filename path should not matter; the db's just have to be OPEN and SHARED with FileMaker running. They would then connect via IP address to the host server and they do not need to know where on the server the db's are located. In fact, you do not even need to have any kind of filesharing on... FileMaker will share the db's to other FileMaker clients.

Good luck!
