What I want to know is if i up the ram on a computer from 64mg to whatever, will it increase the time it takes to pull up a pop up menu. I have a multi-site DB with about 10 users running from FM server 5.5. The link between the locations is not even close to being maxed out. The only task the server preforms is FM Server 5.5. And I do not have the same issue at the same site. The items in the pop-up are indexed and so is the field itself.

Filemaker Server is a disk based server, so upping the RAM is unlikely to help much. Adding a faster harddrive and/or network cards will typically yeild far greater performance gains.

However 64MB is very low by today's standards. Adding at least another 256MB is a very inexpensive way to increase overall OS performance and thus you may see some Filemaker performance increases.

What are the specs of the computer that this is being run on? What OS are you running on?

The computers that I am running on the remote site is 766 MHz 64 MB RAM 100MB nic with windows 98 sp2.

Ya, give it some more RAM and see what happens. However, I think a better/faster harddrive will result in much better performance.

I am assuming your talking about a better/faster harddrive for the server?.

Well yes, in particular the server. Its life is reading and writing to the disk, the faster (10,00RPM preferred) the better and 16Mb cache if possible.

However even on the workstation, I have never seen any upgrade perform better than a new faster harddrive.
