portal - count of rows filled

I have a portal set to show three rows of fields - but which may contain more than three. I want a field elsewhere on the layout indicating how many rows of the portal have been filled. ie: if there are 7 rows filled, it will only display three but the field outside the portal will display '7'.

Can it be done?

Create a calculation of Count(relationship::id).
