Annoying problems with simple buttons

Featured Replies

I've tried my best to see if someone reported this before, but no luck.

Has anyone experienced problems with buttons in v7. Even simple ones, which I made tranparent retain the borders after it has been clicked, and after the script has run.

Not to mention that it isn't possible anymore to build shaded button with the borders toolbox as in prior versions.

Nobody ?

This seems to hapen while in the development process, with regular constant switch from layout to browse, and may be several other applications opened (Photoshop and Safari).

Closing the file and reopening it seems to solve this, but it's still annoying.

OSX Panther and eMac 1,25 Mhtz 1 Gig running FM 7v2 in case that helps

What is the line width? I believe it is a line-width set to zero that causes the problem.

Ugo, you are not the only one. I too experience this problem where a black thin border surrounds the button after being clicked.

This appears to be a bug to me but again like you said not many have reported this sorta of problem. What I found was redoing the button again to fix it. You need to find the button that is "infected", sorry for the lack of a better term. It affects all buttons after you click on the one that is causing this. One of my worst development experience is when I created buttons for a sort for the different fields and I had to narrow down which is causing this behavior. I had to replace each of the buttons because I had originally copied and paste from the "infected" button.

With my exeprience, this occurs on both buttons that are made with the tools on FileMaker's layout tool bar or those with graphics programs such as Photoshop.

Closing the file will stop it from happening but once you click on the button that is causing it then all other buttons will react the same. You just need to find the one single button.

Hope this is of help.

Hi,

At the moment, the problem lies on a set of buttons set to trigger a script from repeating fields. Yes, the button is set to 0 and transparent in the background. I'll try to change this to see if it helps.

However, I remember downloading a file from JMO's solution when clicking a button, in some cases, returned the circle and rectangle he had used to reproduce the borders of an aqua button.

With v7, it seems now impossible to have a button shaded with the exact "shape" of an icon, if this one isn't rectangle. But this is another problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't have the files right now to test but will report if changing to 1 make it work.

Weird. Yeah, I am seeing it now also. Oddly enough I did not see it for quite a while, because I was using rectangular buttons, and it wasn't happening. Now I did a bunch of tabs, and it is happening.

It is not terrible, unless the script does NOT run. If, for example you're checking if something exists, then not going anywhere if it doesn't, the buttons just stays there with it's black outline. In the case of a tab, the entire outline shows, even if it's below another line covering the bottom edge.

This is very incosisent in fact, and that is what is worrying me.

Sometimes it would work, sometime not.

I tried to create a few buttons on back of one icon with several sizes and solutions, in order to post it here, but all this went on fire.

Once I closed the file, what I thought wouldn't work was working...and some buttons, once associated with the icon, had litterally disappeared or resized themselves.

Nevertheles, what seems to be working ok is to fill with 1pt and transparent. The others were where I had these weird behaviours.

And what I reported yesterday for my tabs didn't happened in the last hour I worked with...

Crap. Even the last solution went dead...

I think I have a solution. I think it is LINES that trigger the problem. Once triggered, it persists for all buttons, but buttons comprised of grouped line objects trigger it. Make your transparent overlay out of boxes, make lines from boxes of 1 px width or height, and it shouldn't trigger it, once you quite FM and start your solution back up. At least right now that is working for me, I'll see over time.

Actually, problems occur with both grouped lines and boxes set to no fill and no line. When working in the file, these buttons will perform fine in one session and then improperly outline in the next. This is most annoying and most definitely a bug. I have been reporting it to FileMaker for over a month. Now that they have fired a third of their development team, (www.thinksecret.com) including the ones that work on bugs, no telling when we'll see a fix. They certainly need to fix some things!
