FM8's new Reserved Char Symbols

Featured Replies

FM8 has added some new reserved symbols to the list.

  • {

  • $

In FM7 these were allowed now they are not. This will hurt me a lot as I use the { and } symbols in my relationship names (i.e. {Customer} Address ).

The strange part is all the relations and scripts, that I created in FM7, work fine in FM8, but when it comes time to edit their names or code, filemaker puts up a warning. When you try to add one of these relations to a calculation, filemaker will not recognize the relation or field and will not let you add it.

So I have to go through all my relations and rename them.

This brings me to my real question. Can FM8 Advance do a batch rename of relationship names? Or can it do batch find and replace of some text in all my scripts? Can it do searches in the relationship graph? I type in some text and FM will find all the relations with that text in its name.

Oh, crap - that probably affects field names too. Kinda odd, but I use the $ for any concatination calc fields.

Well, I have figured out that the $ symbol can still be used for field names in calculation but they have to be wraped in

${ }

But this wrapper does not work for the { and } symbols. I have tried relations with the name

{Customers} Address

And I have not been able to get FM8 to except it in calcs
