kiwiora Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Is it just me, am I missing something? I thought 8 had now given us the ability to scroll up and down a screen? I have locked down the status area, but I'm not scrolling anywhere : Don't tell me they've only given support to the scroll wheel to scroll up and down to Mac's...
Ender Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Scrolling through records does not seem to work on layouts in Form View.
kiwiora Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) Crap! Thanks Ender... Edited September 1, 2005 by Guest
rogermax Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Scrolling now is in context to where the cursor is. If you have a text field with a scroll bar and the text fills more than is viewable, if the field is active then the scroll wheel scrolls the field. It will also scroll a portal. It will scroll records in form viw only when the records are not active.
SlimJim Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 The only scroll I can't get to work is up and down within a screen which is too large to fit on the screen in browse mode. This works fine in Layout mode to enable you to use a large zoom value and then scroll up and down and it also works in preview and find(so long as no fields are active). If you have sideways scroll on your mouse that seems to work fine in all modes.
kiwiora Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 I have a requirement for a layout that is longer than the screen. As Ender states, Browse (Form View) will not allow you to use your scroll wheel to move your screen up/down. My users all use M$N and they have an expectation that they can scroll up/down in a window just as they can in any M$N product (e.g word/excel and internet explorer). I lock the status bar to ensure that they don't instinctively scroll to move the screen and instead flip records. Would have thought this was a basic thing Filemaker would have included in the supposed "scroll wheel support"???
SlimJim Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 If you have the status area locked so that they cannot move to another record then you could put the View mode into View as List. That enables scolling up and down through the body with the other parts fixed.
kiwiora Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 No, it can't be list as it will show them all other records one after the other. The only way I can get around that is to ensure only 1 record is available (i.e omit all others). And that isn't suitable for other reasons. It's simple. In Browse (View as Form) I just want it to scroll up/down the screen of the current record.
SlimJim Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 A thousand apologies you're quite right about list mode. I tried it out and it worked perfectly but (slap on head) I had failed to notice I had a found set of only 1 record.
kiwiora Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 No worries.. I know.. like I said.. something so blimmen simple you'd think they'd be able to implement... especially since they were already looking at scroll wheel issues.. doh And for anyone that argues they want to scroll through records, you're catered for - just don't lock the status bar. At the moment, as soon as you lock the status bar, the scroll wheel serves no purpose so why they couldn't address the functionality as per standard XP op environment i don't know!
