fmsavey Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 (edited) I've been using FM at work for several years now, with much success. Despite the success I have been under fire from the IS department for using a non-approved application. Not having much experience with MS Access what are some compelling arguments for using FM8 over Access. Rational arguments only please. Edited October 20, 2005 by Guest
stanley Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Fmsavey: I have no experience of Access - I develop solely in FMP - but I do have experience of IT departments and their "approved application" concept - usually that can be translated as "Microsoft software, and whatever other stuff we've managed to figure out." It can be pretty hard to fight an IT department, but here's some ammunition: InfoWorld's review of FMP7: http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/05/28/22TCfilemaker_1.html PC World's review of FMP7: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1818968,00.asp FMI has an old comparison of FMP 6 & Access (so it's fairly obsolete) here: www.filemaker.com/downloads/ pdf/fm_access_comparison.pdf As one review I read put it, "comparing FileMaker and Access is like comparing apples and oranges," so you might want to shy away from the straight comparison, and point your IT department toward making FileMaker an "approved application."
