Runtime Huge--Normal?

Featured Replies

I have a simple FM project--only about 15 records in one main table with small amounts of text. But when I make the runtime (I'm on a Mac), the .app file it creates is HUGE. Like 40 MB! Is this normal? Makes copying files back and forth for testing purposes a pain.

(I've tried the Tools - File Maintenance - Compact & Optimize...)

Thanks.

Runtime is a strip-down copy of FileMaker. My copy of advance is 140 MB on disk, so it seems reasonable that your Runtime is 40 MB.

FM8 Advanced with a similar size solution on my Windows XP is 52MB.

Thanks Lee and Mel--guess I won't fret about the file size, then.

In response to another thread, I made a small runtime sample. I just checked its file size. and it is 49 megabytes:

2 TOs

2 fields

1 portal

1 value list.

The original file is 52k.

One thing you can do is remove a bunch of the foreign language dictionaries that you won't be using, and then zipping the whole thing... I can usually squeeze a small runtime database into a little over 10MB that way.

Good idea Reed, and that may be exactly what Mark needs to do.
