Fuzzy fonts in FM8 layouts

Featured Replies

Just making the move from FM6 to FM8. My layouts in the new version look really bad. All the fonts (mostly Ariel) look fuzzy/blurry. I've made sure my WindowXP settings are correct (to smooth fonts) and I've played around with the font smoothing style in Preferences. Nothing really helps. When I run both versions side by side my layouts in FM6 look smooth and crisp... the layouts in FM8 look like I need new glasses. What's up? Am I doing something wrong, or do I just need to stick with FM6 to get a clear, crips layout?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Filemaker had a problem with v7 with fons being fuzzy. Try another font to see if it makes a difference. My personal preference is Verdana 10 which is about the equivalence of Arial 12, but easier on the eyes.

I have no problems with v8.02 on XP.

We have this exact problem although it only seems to occur at 100% zoom. The fonts look fine at anything over this and they are OK at below 100%, it's almost as though Font Smoothing is switched off at 100%

It's making life difficult as we are trying to settle on a common look and feel for our application and finding a font which looks right is proving awkward.

Oops, just discovered that this PC had XP's font smoothing turned off! That's resolved my issue at least but it's interesting that Filemaker appears to handle smoothing at all zoom levels other than 100%
