Newbies sm Posted August 8, 2006 Newbies Posted August 8, 2006 I installed FM 8.5 and FM 8.5 advance on some of our systems. Some major features are missing. I can't convert a FM 6 DB. After borrowing someone's system and got the DB converted, I'm able to do the basic fuctions with the DB, but not able to do "save copy as..". The error msg says: This command cannot be used by this installation of FileMaker. It seems like the SW I got only allow to do simple browse/edit features. I called the sales dept of FileMaker, I was told the SW I purchased should be allowed for full feature. I don't even have an access code for one technical support. Can anyone share your thoughts on what my problem could be? why I don't get the access code for at least one tech support? Who should I ask for help from FileMaker? Your help would be much appreciated! --SM
Ted S Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 sm, The file conversion from v6 to v8 (actually v6 to v7) can be troublesome depending on your individual situation. Filemaker has some "white papers" on their web site that address the upgrade issues specifically. This topic has also been discussed here extensively but mostly when v7 first came out.
Newbies sm Posted August 8, 2006 Author Newbies Posted August 8, 2006 Thank you Ted for your reply. I am not worrying about the conversion because I have a consultant to help for converting the DB. My main problem is the FM 8.5 installed on our systems, which only allow us to use the basic funtions. What could be wrong? license issue? or should I install version 8 first because I purchased version 8 and got an email for a link to version 8.5. I don't even have an access code for one support call. I tried to call FM support and can't get to anyone. Again, appreciate any help. SM
