coolcat Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Is it good housekeeping every once in a while to save a compacted copy (smaller) of all your files and then replace them with the originals? I was under the impression that not only might the files be somewhat smaller in size - but that they were also rebuilt and cleaned up somehow internally - is this true? Also - Does this process help in any way to check/repair corruption?
The Shadow Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Save compacted rebuilds the file new. Some corruption might inadvertantly be cleaned out by doing this, but that's not its main purpose. If you have Advanced, I'd suggest you try out the "Optimize" function under Tools > File Maintenence also, it reorganizes disk blocks to what should be a good disk layout for the file. Both these will help most if you're deleting data regularly. If you only ever add records, you're file is probably already pretty well laid out.
