New 'Updater' feature!

Featured Replies

Now this I like ... one of the problems with FM in the past is that I had to either constantly check for updates or count on someone from FM Forums to mention that one was out. But this is a nice new feature of vs. 9 and I plan to leave this feature on.

I am the opposite - maybe it is just a PC thing though... I hate having anything that is using bandwidth/RAM and accessing other computers without my consent.

I feel the same way about background processes, but I like that you can at least discontinue it in the future.

Just say no. On the Mac, the dialog goes away, and will will look again at the next interval you have selected (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly), and you can turn it off, and just do it manually also.

With any other program - particularly Windows updates, I agree. But FM Updaters are CRITICAL to my profession. The moment one comes out, I want it. I do NOT want surprises in this regard.

Those that don't want it can set it to off. Those that want to NOT watch TV can do that as well. Those that want to ignore automatic time changes can set it to off so their computers don't automatically change; but I appreciate some of these options. At least we now KNOW about it and I will NEVER EVER be behind in receiving FileMaker Updaters - they usually fix critical issues. :smirk:

We are NOT talking about an updater that runs all the time - we are talking about an UPDATER that fixes bugs in FileMaker and will only generate when a NEW updater is out!
