pspafford Posted February 6, 2001 Posted February 6, 2001 I like to think of myself as not being an idiot, but no matter how much I read from the manual and the help files, I can't understand what the PatternCount function does. Can somebody please explain it? Thanks. Paul
danjacoby Posted February 6, 2001 Posted February 6, 2001 PatternCount(text, search string) returns a number -- it searches the text entered (such as a field name) for occurrences of the search string and tells you how many times it finds the string. For example: PatternCount(State, "iss") will return a "2" if the contents of the field "State" equal "Mississippi, but a "1" if the contents equal "Missouri". Got it? HTH, Dan
Vaughan Posted February 6, 2001 Posted February 6, 2001 A practical example I used recently was to see if a database file is open. The DatabaseNames funcion returns all the names of the currently opened files (separated by carriage returns
pspafford Posted February 7, 2001 Author Posted February 7, 2001 So ... it gives a count of how many times "Search string" appears within "Text"? [This message has been edited by pspafford (edited February 07, 2001).]
