create a cumulative (adding) Field

I want to create a field that would always add the number preceding it, the field would be cumulative. Is this possible and if so , how do I proceed. This field would be part of a timesheet and it would add time spent on projects by different employees

Not sure exactly what you want, but take a look at summary fields, using the "Running Total" feature.

Create a field on each record, and autoenter the value from the previous record. Then use that value in a calc field to do what you want.
