February 8, 200124 yr Newbies Does anyone have or can direct me to detailed comparison of Filemaker vs Lotus Notes? OR can you relate insight you've acquired while using both apps. Am currently using Fmp extensively and org would like to move to Lotus Notes. Thanks.
February 14, 200124 yr Newbies We have used Filemaker for about 8 years in our very small company (6 people). About 3 years ago we were persuaded to buy Lotus Notes and paid for a company to take all my filemaker databases and make them do the same thing in Lotus Notes. They never seemed to quite be able to make it do the same things and about 18 months later we threw Lotus Notes off our system. I am not an incredibly technical person but after trying both, my instinct was to stick with Filemaker. I have to admit that I am very biased towards Apple Mac products and I have heard that Lotus Notes is good for very large organisations. Although I can't give you a detailed comparison my experience with Lotus Notes was bad and expensive but we may have chosen the wrong company to set it up in the first place.

I have been in the database business for many years (Mac, Windows, Unix and mixtures) and worked with all kinds of systems. I have NEVER seen a successful implementation of Lotus Notes, no matter what the size of the organization. Lotus Notes was not a good idea 10 years ago when it was first released, and it never got any better. ------------------ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Kurt Knippel Consultant Database Resources mailto:[email protected] http://www.database-resources.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
February 14, 200124 yr My sister loves Lotus Notes, but then she works for IBM and she's never seen FileMaker. I had a look at Lotus Notes on her computer and my impression is that it is very limited with nowhere near the capabilities of Filemaker.
