I have huge program to controll the University Student Affair Office. Some times if I want to delete a record, I cant do that. When I closed the fmpro and reopen it , then I can do. More specifically, when I want to delete a record if I want to see confirmation message, fmpro can not give thet confirmation message so it can not continue deletin operation. That is the same if want to change the type of the field, if it again can not give the confirmation message I can not change the type. Again if I close and re-open the file maker it works.

Do you know why ?

(I think the problem has something that is related to the web pages. for a long time I try to find the reason, I see that it mostly happens when somebody uses the program via internet at the same time with me via fmppro. and that has been getting too boring to close and reopen "often" such a huge program containg about 40 databases.)

is there any restriction for the file maker not to use the databases when they are open to the web users ?

Thanks in advance.

For logical reasons, FM will not allow you to delete a record that is in use by someone else. Sounds like the record is either in use or has not be released. -bd

I see ...

That seems to be the reason. I can not see another reason because when there is nobody on the web there is no problem.

Thank you very much.

I faced with the same problem today. I checked the situation: I was not connected to the network (the cable was unpluged ), I wa not no using the any database via web. But I was not able to delete a record.

I checked another thing , I needed to delete a portal row. The delete action was checked to ask confirmation message, I unchecked that option and tried to delete the same row, yes, I was able to delete it then.

I checked another thing. Sharing options, I closed the sharing,to see what happens. But again it doesn't work.

Then I closed yhe file maker and reopen it . Everything was Ok again, I could delete any record and I could change the type of the field.

The reason is I think the system can't give confirmation messages. Why?

best wishes.

i have also had this problem, sometimes i find i can't delete a record so i close filmaker and reopen all the databases and everything works fine. What was weird about my problem was that even though i could not delete a record through filemaker, if i went to the database through web companion i was able to delete a record. wierd huh? so far this isnt causing a major problem because our intranet is only in development. But this could cause some problems for me when we finnally get it up and running.

i am running filemaker 4.1 and i am on NT 4.0

Okay, I have this problem too with one of my DBs being hosted on the web using CDML.

Here's the interesting part:

if I create 2 scripts, one which deletes the current record and one which deletes all current found recrods, I can delete. However, I cannot delete using the options in the menu. I am on with the master password; in fact, when this problem started, there weren't even any passwords.

Hm.

Thanks.
