richshone Posted May 12, 2001 Posted May 12, 2001 I just started using FMP5 recently and am VERY frustrated by the fact that the relationships that are set up in this set of files keeps breaking down. This has never happened to me in FMP4 before and I can't even seem to redefine these relationships myself after the fact. It just won't do it... I have had to revert back to the original file and start my work again twice now, losing hours and hours of my precious time. Anyone experienceing these problems at all? Any advice? Please help before I go crazy... thanks
danjacoby Posted May 14, 2001 Posted May 14, 2001 Please give more information -- what kind of relationship, and how does it "break down"? Also, have you been able to find a pattern -- when does it break down?
richshone Posted May 19, 2001 Author Posted May 19, 2001 I finally figured out the problem and it was my mistake and not Filemaker's. I was just trying to use a new (to me that is) Database that has so many dead ends - try 7 different developers over 7 years each with their own agenda and see what you get - that I was having trouble looking clearly at what my problem was. Such is the risk of bad house keeping...
danjacoby Posted May 21, 2001 Posted May 21, 2001 This problem is one of the reasons why I don't like to rush a job, especially with a new client. Start putting together a solution in a piecemeal manner and you end up with a bunch of deadwood programming and kludgy workarounds. I also never accept a job where I'm "cleaning up" a database someone else has designed. I always insist, if they want to hire me, on creating a new database solution and importing the data.
