Does renaming cause corruption?

Featured Replies

I was working on the "Collections" template...modifying it and such...and when I got it to how I wanted it, I decided to change the name of the DB from "Collections" to "photocatalog". When I tried to open it afterwards, it said the database was corrupted and to do a recover. I did that and it's fine now....but now I have photocatalog_recovered. I want to change it to just photocatalog.....but does renaming a database CAUSE corruption??? Should I start all over again from scratch? I don't want this slight corruption to haunt me down the road seeing as how I just started.

I've never seen any close association. It mostly causes the file to become disconnected from other files.

I'll bet you copied the file in Explorer while the original file was open.

On PCs you can copy an open FMP files with no complaints from the OS, however it will have some level of corruption depending on whether the FMP disk cache was updated, the phase of the moon, etc. When it's first opened FMP will issue the warning you report and try to fix it.

FileMaker Inc expressly warns against copying open files in one of their TechInfo articles. On Macs the OS won't let you copy an opened file no matter what so it's not an issue.
