Gogargirl Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 I am running a small (1.4KB) database with FM 5.0v1 on a PC with W2KPro. It is a PIII 333Mhz machine with three quarters of the 4GB disk space free and the max of 256RAM. When I make a compressed copy of the dbase, I get this error message: "There may not be enough disk space to complete this operation. FM will not be able to open the file if this operation fails. Proceed anyway?" I do proceed, and all is OK - but am I letting myself in for future problems? I couldn't find anything about this in FM support. On a (maybe) related note, the fields which have a lot of dependant relationshps are very slow to refresh when new data is entered. What makes the most difference here, having a big hard drive with lots of free space, or having a faster chipset? Grateful for your thoughts!
Steven H. Blackwell Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 First, update to 5.0v3 (international English). it fixed a number of issues, and I seem to remember this was one. And while you're at it, check under Edit-->Preferences-->Application to see what your cache size is set to be. Make ut at least 4096KB. HTh Old Advance Man
Gogargirl Posted February 25, 2002 Author Posted February 25, 2002 I reset the cache size to 9000 after doing some scripting and it made no difference. I'll go for the upgrade - thanks!
Steven H. Blackwell Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 That's a free updater 5.0v1--->5.0v3. Of course, you could upgrade to 5.5v2. Old Advance Man
BruceJ Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 I get the same message when I do a "save copy as..." command. I'm using v5.0.3. I'm using WindozeXP Home Edition. I don't recall this message with Windoze 9x or ME and I've never seen it on my faithful Mac OS. Maybe this is one of Bill Gate's conspiracy to trick us into using Access... I guess it's time to put my tin foil hat back on.
Gogargirl Posted February 26, 2002 Author Posted February 26, 2002 Hmmmm..... Did the upgrade to 5.0v3 and still get the error message. Any more ideas anyone please?
danjacoby Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Have you tried running a hard disk utility to check the hard drive? How did you install FMP -- did you install it from a program CD, or copy it from another source? (You can see where this question is heading.) Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck.
