Aussie John Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I understand afp and filemaker don't play together too well but what about other services like mail. If I keep mail on the system drive and filemaker data on a separate drive will this be a problem? thanks
Wim Decorte Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 from a purely technical point of view: it'll run. But mail by nature is a bad companion: lots of disk I/O and potentially a lot of network I/O. Those 2 of the 3 FMS bottlenecks. And performance aside: do you really want to take your mail down for an FMS reboot or FMS down for a mail reboot? If your FMS hosted solution is somewhat business critical you'll be better served by putting it on its own server.
Joost Miltenburg Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Indeed it will run. I had FileMaker Server fetch email thorough server side scripting. It works, but does tax the FMserver ( MacMini Server 10.6.x with FMS11v2 ) to the extend that I am installing a new seperate machine to do this work instead of the server.
