FileMaker slows down Workstation

Hey there!

We're running Windows NT 4.0 in a Novell-Network.

We've got big problems with FileMaker! After using FileMaker

the whole Machine is getting VERY slow...This stays till a Reboot!

We have this Phenomen on EVERY Machine FileMaker is running on!

I need a Fix for this Problem or we have to kick FileMaker!!;-(

1. Clean out the temp files directory.

2. Where are the files physically located? If they are on a Novell Server, this is not supported, and it is in fact a very bad practice.

Check the patch level and update if necessary: the latest are 4.0v3, 4.1v3, 5.0v3, 5.5v2. (It's the vX number that is the patch level.)

The Program Files are on every single Machine!

It isn't running over the Network...they are local installations.

We're running FileMaker 5.5 Pro German, which means I cannot use the FileMaker Update because there's no German Updater available.

Oh no! Files MUST be on single machine! That machine can open them and serve them to other users!

The *program* files are best installed locally -- which you indicate they are. However what others refer to are the *database files* themselves that people open with FMP. These should *not* be on a network server: they should either be on the users hard disk if single user, or on a FM Server if multiuser -- people open them through the Hosts command.

That was lousy job from me above frown.gif" border="0 Thank you Vaughan for better explanation.

I have got carried away with the "It isn't running over the Network...they are local installations" sentence. I've assumed that is about the data files.

Sorry for the bad explanation guys!

The PROGRAM Files are on every single Machine!

The DATABASE Files are loacated in a NetWare-Share (mapped as local drive).

Do anyone knows or seems to know, if the German Update for FMPro 5.5 is available in the near future?

Thx anyway!

This is NOT, repeat NOT, a supported typology. Files should not be accessed via ANY OS' networking capability. Please see the Server Best Practices White paper on the FMI Web site.

Files need to be on a CPU acting as the dedicated FM Server. They are hosted by FM Server to all guests having FMP on the workstation. Server must have one of the following OS: Mac OS 9, MAc OS X, Windows 2000 Server, Windows NT 4 Server w/ SP 5 or 6A.
