dshafer Posted December 13, 2001 Posted December 13, 2001 I'm contemplating purchasing FMD5.5. I have been working on a product for some time for in-house use and now want to turn it into a product and creating a stand-alone is clearly the right way to go. But I have two questions for which I can't find answers anywhere that I've looked. 1. Can users of the stand-alone application define new layouts and/or change existing layouts or is that functionality "locked out'? 2. Could several users of individual copies of the stand-alone application share the same data files over a network or are the files somehow compiled with the app, precluding that use? Thanks.
MpWiedemann Posted December 13, 2001 Posted December 13, 2001 Hi Dan, Answers: 1. No, design features are locked out. 2. There is no networking built into the runtimes. The databases are compiled along with the runtime app. No sharing.
dshafer Posted December 13, 2001 Author Posted December 13, 2001 Sigh. That's what I sort of expected. Oh, well, back to the drawing board. Thanks for the quick answer.

If someone will open your databases outside of runtime, he/she can use design functions it they are not protected by password. 2. If user will register runtime database on FM server, they can serve them to standard FM clients. Have a nice day in Monterey [ December 13, 2001: Message edited by: Anatoli ]
dshafer Posted December 14, 2001 Author Posted December 14, 2001 Thanks for the clarification. It's (almost) always a nice day in Monterey!
Anatoli Posted December 14, 2001 Posted December 14, 2001 I know, have been there several times. My father was in love with Monterey because of the books written about it, but he didn't manage visit -- it was the communism here! So I went there instead and I send him private message up there to heaven
