Currently we are using 5.0 on all the computers, with a filemaker 5 server/

Yes, they can. However the new features won't be available to the 5.0vx users. Also, there are some issue related to the way that auto discconect idel guests work. There are also some changes in the way that IF, Case, and Choose functions evaluate. Version 5.5 fixes some errors in prior versions.
