February 19, 200223 yr Do you have an auto enter password in the preferences for the second file. If you do and want access with the higher level, you will need to hold down (CTRL & SHIFT on PC) (ALT & SHIFT on MAC) before the second file opens. quote: Originally posted by thewalker: is there any way the when filemaker opens a file with from a script or portal that it does not use the same password to open the file by this i mean that i have a password for one file which allows every one full access to the records but a second file i want limited to browse only but with one person that has a separate password to beable to add rec but when it opens it opens this file with the first password and does not give the oppportunity to enter the higher password help
February 19, 200223 yr Author i have just tried what you suggested but it did not work there is no auto enter password set in the pref i might add that the file is hosted on fmserver will this have any thing to do with it
February 19, 200223 yr Create a new set of passwords (one for each file that give full access) and give that password to the relevant individuals. That should alleviate any problems.
February 19, 200223 yr > by this i mean that i have a password for one file which allows every one full access to the records but a second file i want limited to browse only but with one person that has a separate password to beable to add rec In the second file, simply change the privileges of the password to do what you want. That way if the first file is opened with the password "dog" and has full access, the other file will also open with "dog", but in this instance it will have limited access. In other words, the same password in different files can have different privileges. HTH Old Advance Man
