When making a search-form, i am unable to allow the user to choose from a category by using a drop-down list, and then pressing submit (or whatever) to see all records in that category. How do i solve this? Furthermore, i have a problem with controlling the size (max char) of such a dropdown list. When using the <select option...> i am unable to set the max length of the field.. -( Hope you can help..

I have a Meta tag triggering a URL out of a FileMaker field. This is a cool thing! But...it does not work the same as if this URL is triggered by a user clicking a link. This is the backgound info. Hi everyone. I want to create a secure server. I'm using FileMaker's Web Companion on port 968, opposed to the default setting of port 80. I have WebStar on port 80. I want to serve my customised web pages (in the FileMaker Web Folder) securely using SSL. I know nothing about creating a secure server. Can I make both ports secure? Am I making any sense? lol... The problem is still happening after upgrading Web Companion to v6. "Submit" will work if I have not used the search function. But if I use the search on any of the fields, the error occurs (after doing the edit, modification and then submit)... Any leads would greatly help!

I'm trying to use the contents from a global filed in my layout for data entry using instant web publishing. It won't show the value. i'm trying to set it up so teachers can enter multiple choice questions in a Global field and they appear on the web page.

I am trying to run a FM script via the web. Most of the scripts that I am running work fine. But I am have a problem with one of them. This particular script pauses and askes the user to continue. When I run the script on the web, the browser hangs up until you go into filemaker and press continue. If I take out the pause, the script does not work. Does anyone know how to get the continue to work on the web? Or does anyone have another suggestions (not running the script is not an option)?

Hi, perhaps someone can help me. This is what I have. Running FM 5.0.6 in a iBook, system 9.1 I have published my invoices database, I recall data from it using CDML. Works fine until I change to a different layout, when I submit a new search or simply a refresh from the browser and a error message appears, it says "File not found" and the error is "Format file not found" I been playing with it , I found out that is a field (or group of fields) that are "corrupted" I deleted that field and created again, works fine for a few moments but the error keeps returning. I am having difficulty getting the web companion configured. I have it working great great on the on PC it is configured on but when I try to connect to that PC's IP from a diffent PC on that network (in IE) it won't work. Anyone have any ideas?

Paul - Well, Homepage is dead and gone now - Filemaker is no longer supporting it. Not that it's not good to continue using for CDML code, it's just that it'll never be updated. You should take a look at using Lasso and its LDML code, of which CDML is a subset. Lasso is much more robust, faster and more flexible than CDML. Does FM Server 5 need to be installed on a server version of the OS to allow unlimited access to the databases using Web Companion? What about multiple users accessing via FM client? I'm asking these questions because our systems were originally setup using the server versions of Win2k. From what I can tell I see no need or even a benefit for using the server version of the OS for FM Server 5.

When I am setting up Web Companion and click on the drop menu for network protocol in the application prefs there is no TCP/IP. Is this a install option perhaps? Thanks MBW

Is there a good resource that has some generic CDML samples that a beginner can look at? I'm just beginning to do custom web publishing of a simple database with a few fields, value lists, etc. I've got the CDML Tool but that isn't necessarily clear on how exactly to do everything. Okay, this is what I need to achieve.... I have developed a standalone quoting system for our sales people. They are running individual runtime solutions on their laptops. It's a bit of a complex app. It consists of 65 Filemaker files (of which many are price lookup tables), and I have about 20 different layouts in total. Hello, Let's say I'm creating a glossary. I'd like the user to be able to click on a letter of the alphabet (we'll say 'B') whose link causes FMP to load another page with all the terms and definitions in the table and then scroll the user to the letter that they clicked on (like an anchor). I've tried to use anchors by including a '#B' after the -Format tag but FMP doesn't like that. Any ideas? Hi. I am having a bit of a problem. I am hoping someone can help. I can find everything great but if i go to sort the results I get all the records in the database - not the ones I found. I have tried tokens and cookies but they are just not working. I am using FM 4 so i can only pass one token. I was trying to pass the EmployeeName field. i have a database with a repeating field. i want to display this over the web. however, i only want to display it for the information that is actually there. not the blank repetitions. each record has a different amount of information in the field. how do i do this?

I'm trying to find out the number of the current record on a CDML page because I want to compare it with other values (e.g. the content of a token). This can't be done by [something.cn.CurrentRecordNumber] because the expression "CurrentRecordNumber" is only allowed to be the first parameter, not the second one. Switching the parameters will also fail because there's no comparison "is contained by" instead of "contains". Hi all: I'm using webcompanion to publish a fp5 database. It has a number of layouts, each selectable from a menu of buttons (in the filemaker file). Web companion interprets the buttons as links (correctly), but if I choose one, other buttons or graphics disappear as the new layout comes on. If I choose "edit layout", all graphics reappear properly, and I can enter info to the database without a hitch. Has anyone encountered similar issues? Are there work arounds? Thanks, LS

I am trying to put up a FM based survey for a client. Not only do they want the name, address, etc fields to be required, they also want the survey questions (radio button value listed fields) required as well. For some reason when I post the survey via the web any missing information in the required text fields do return the error page, as they should, but missing information in the radio button fields does not. I have tried a variety of things from altering the validation requirements in the FM dbase to even removing the value lists on the layout the web form uses. Hello. I just installed 5.5 for os x and enabled web companion. I changed the default port, poked around for a while, and then later tried to restart apache (which I had turned off, figuring that web companion would want port 80 to begin with). Apache won't start. Turned web companion off. Restarted. No luck. Apache won't start (from CLI or GUI). Reinstalled Apache. No luck. The manual says FMP makes some configuration changes when web comp. is enabled for the first time. Any idea what they are?

I'm wondering how best to limit the possible field edits made by an online user. I have a form which uses drop-down menus to enter specific text into field. When users create a new record, their submission places one of three or four possibilities into different fields based on the drop-down menus. Then, when other users search for specific records, those restricted field entries are converted (using If/Else statements)into more descriptive text and specialized links. That much works fine. alrighty. this what i'm trying to do. i have a database named divisionmanager.fp5 in this database i have two fields. Division - the name of the division SubDivision - repeating field of the subdivisions what i'm trying to do is construct in html a system with 2 drop down menus. the first one is for the division. then, depending on what was selected in this first menu, the second menu displays the appropriate subdivisions. i can do this menu in javascript, but since the FMP tags don't work in javascript, i'm not sure what to do. a big gold star to whoever figures this out first. thanks so much, timmy.

A teacher layout, a LMC layout, a principal layout, a manager layout, and a tech layout. Under the default view, everyone can see and edit everything. I want to have an on-line password for each layout, so that for example, when an elementary school principal wants access to his layout in the database, they go to a layout where they can see all the other records, but they're only able to edit the fields I want them to because they're on their own layout. I've made a database (FMP5) for use with multiple groups of people. I set groups and passwords for each group, because I only want certain groups to view and edit certain things. This works fine when I'm not sharing or if I were only using one computer for all of these groups. But I'm serving this page over a dedicated IP on a school district, and I need the same type of functionality over the internet. What if you take all security precautions: for example, having your databases outside of the FM Web folder; using filemaker access privileges, and so on. Hi all, I work for a human factors/usability engineering firm that recruits people to test how useable technology products are. We use Filemaker Pro to keep track of our participants. Right now all of our associates use the web interface to record new information and update records. The problem is: We've set the tab order and it works fine when you are using the file through Filemaker but when it is being viewed through the browser the tab order is following some obscure logic of its own. I have read many of the posting about -LOP and -Op and am trying to use == instead of operators. My problem is I have a search page with 2 fields Item number and part number that I want to search and get an exact match on 1 or the other field. In other words if you search for part number 33 I don't want it returning 33 and 334. If I add the code to make the fields exact and someone searches on one field it only returns records that have the exact match of 1 field and an exact match of nothing in the other field. We are struggling with a problem, where we are running BOTH FMP Server and Unlimited (version 5) on the same Win2k Server box. Our objective is to allow both standard TCP/IP network access to a database AND also serve it on the web. I understand this is not a desirable setup (i.e. we should use 2 servers, but want to avoid this if possible). If I want to allow a customer to upload files within my form page how can I accomplish this so that they attach the file before submitting then the item's get placed into a folder with the corresponding Record ID as the folder name. ( so that the uploaded files and the quote request can be matched up)?? Lastly I'll be using FM5 Unlimited and FM5 Server on the same cpu. We are having a random problem where all of the databases opened by FMPro 5 Unlimited are being similtanously closed. The setup is as follows: Machine 1: FM Pro 5 Unlimited, Running Win2K server. Machine 2: FM Server Running Win2K. I'm suspecting that the problem is accessing the database via the Web using a Mac after any of the CDML pages were updated. The reason why I think this is because I have another machine setup with FMpro5 to test new pages with. I'm probably being stupid but I seem to be having difficulty searching for records based on email addresses The database returns no records found error. I have found that if I take out the dots and @ and just leave the text it will find the record! Any suggestions Thank you

I am having a problem with my tags. In particular the cookie tag. I send the SetCookie tag and it works just fine. The cookie sets perfectly. But the strange part comes when I try to use the stored cookie. On some HTML pages the cookie works. But on other pages all I get in my browser is the tag, "[fmp-cookie: WWHSCurrentUser]", and not the cookie value. Am I forgeting to include other tags around it or have I lost my marbles. I want to make a page wich shows some records and be able to update and delete them. I want the response page (-format) the same page again. For one reason or the other the page does not show the updated result from the database with the delete action. It does show the updated result with the update action. And when i push the delete button the record is deleted in the database and the search from the inline has been performed. What is happening here? I already tried the "expires" meta tag with no luck. Hi Im new to CDML and I have a project where Im creating format files using CDML. I have my "results" page and "details" page working fine but I want to create a simple text link that does a search on a specific field and then goes to my "results" listview format file. Say I have a text link that says "Drills" I want that link to do a -find on my FM field "Machine_Type" and find "Drills" and then show it in the "results" format file I made. I'm trying to use a portal and the Instant Web Portal (poorly named, could be confused with the field type portal). Here is the situation; I have a layout with some text fields, then I have a portal that pulls from another FM file; up to 8 lines. When I view the database using the Instant Web Portal, if there are already records in the portal, they are displayed and the user can even add more. However, when creating a new record, there is nothing that initiates creating a new record in the portal. I am hosting FMP databases to multiple users who use FMP5 vi TCP/IP, but I need one user to access using web companion. Access via the web has been set up with web companion and appears to work nicely. HOWEVER, the hosted database is mimicking the search results and other actions of the remote system. Am I insane? I can't figure out why it's doing this.

I am trying to use Web Companion with Netscape 4.77. When I use Web Companion with IE5, everything works fine. IE5 is using the cascading style sheets and the the layouts are working fine. When I use Netscape 4.77 it begins to load the Cascading style sheet but then stops and just gives me plain layouts. What do I need to change for Netscape to work with the layouts that I want to see on the web?
