October 2, 200223 yr Maybe I am doing something wrong... but, when I try to install FM6 in OS X onto a new computer (G4, 1.25Ghz with 2GB of RAM), the following message appears "The Software to be installed requires 8 MB of total machine memory (RAM), which this computer does not have." What can I do about this? Help
October 2, 200223 yr Are you using the OS X installer? It is possible that you are using the OS 9.x installer and it is not recognizing the RAM.
October 2, 200223 yr Author Yep.... I am using the OS X installer.... I thought about trying the OS 9.x installer but it defeats the purpose of my company upgrading to OS X and FP 6... Is there some "setting" that I need to change? Have I missed something?
October 2, 200223 yr Hmm, you be an installer issue. The installer that FMI is using may not recognize RAM above a certain amount. Possibly a call to FMI tech support is in order. They need to know about this.
October 2, 200223 yr I remember there was a bug fix for Clairs Works (FM used to be owned by Clairs) that fixed it from not launching when you had more then 384MB of ram (back then, that was alot) since i bet all the clairs installers shared the same installer and the OSX one is just a carbonized version, its an old bug coming back for another round.
December 3, 200223 yr I'm having the same problem installing FM6 on an Xserve running OS X Server 10.2. I've visited FileMaker's web site support area and there is a TechNote (107586) recognising this RAM error but no workaround is given other than it is a problem with the MindVision installer. Also, I'm not able to install it across a network as none of our other Macs are running OS 10.1. So has anyone found a way to overcome the problem?
December 3, 200223 yr This must be a 2gb ram issue. I also have a new G4 1.25 dual, but it only has 1 gb of ram and it installed FMP 6 just fine.
