filemaker 7 on Windows???

Featured Replies

i have heard alot about filemaker 7 moving to SQL and not being devloped for mac os 9, but i have heard nothing about it being devloped for windows. am i just scaring people or can i take it for granted that they will be devloping it for multi platforms as 5 and 6 were.

just a thought, as unfortunatly, we are currently phasing out macs but we are running a big filemaker db

It's a pretty safe bet that FM will continue to be made for Win because its a big market.

By the way, it is a chronic practice of Apple to completely drop support for "older" OSes when new ones are out. Now that 10 has been out for a while, you can bet that they will drop OS9 support like a bad habit. I guess that helps them to maintian their high standard of quality.

Filemaker 6 is the last version of Filemaker on MacOS 9 and will be continued to be developed for MacOS X, Windows and Linux. As is Filemaker Server for Windows will only run on the NT based versions.

I doubt that Filemaker will "move to SQL", since SQL is nothing that Filemaker can move to. Although it is likely that it will adopt the SQL standard for more and more of its features.

Phasing out Macs is not a good idea, either. MacOS X is becoming more and more powerful and will likly be a major competitor for Linux and NT in the enterprise server market.
