davest Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 I have been told by a software supplier that a Filemaker session is hogging the (Windows) clipboard thus preventing the software from printing. I'm sorry that I can't be more precise but it is a problem I have inherited. I am also told that a large UK retailer had a similar problem and overcame it. So the software company may be onto something. Does Filemaker 'hog' the clipboard? If so is there any way to stop it?
davest Posted November 28, 2002 Author Posted November 28, 2002 Yes, the problem occurs with people running Windows NT v4.0 (sp5).
Anatoli Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 RE: I have been told by a software supplier that a Filemaker session is hogging the (Windows) clipboard thus preventing the software from printing. I will recommend this for nomination in "Stupidest Computer Excuse" category. Of course anyone can misuse the clipboard from any program. But not the program by itself and definitely not the FileMaker. To be fair -- FileMaker usually has the problem with latest printer drivers. If FM has problem with print, just install older printer driver. During my stay in England Surrey, I've come to conclusion, that British people in general are the most talented "excuse makers" in the World
Natalie Posted November 29, 2002 Posted November 29, 2002 This is silly excuse. Anatoli is right! Application cannot hog clipboard. Operating system provides clipboard without priority to all applications. If windows gives priority to any application for clipboard, then it is operating system fault, not appliction fault. If driver or 3party application does not print because of operating system quirk then driver or app is not compliant with operating system. They are looking for somewhere to point finger for sure.
