ryanzon Posted August 11, 2003 Posted August 11, 2003 Hi! I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, hope you don't mind it at all. But anyway, I have a very very very BIG problem right now. My company wants to shift from Windows to Linux. Actually, almost 1/4 of out PCs are already running on Mandrake and Redhat. Is there anyway I can run Filemaker client on a Linux environment? Right now I'm testing it on WINE, It runs - single user mode, but i need it to work on 30 users using TCP/IP. Any Idea? Thanx!
falkaholic Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 I think you may be in trouble. From the subject i was going to recommend WINE, but that doesn't completely work. I've had limited success with WINE myself. I haven't heard of any about FM client for linux. There is the FM server for linux but that won't help. The only thing I can think of is to use the Instand Web Publishing and have Linux users work through that.
Anatoli Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 I guess everyone want to kick Windows ass The truth is that so many applications are running on Windows so nicely, that in most cases the move cannot be done. You can go the Browser as FM client path, but I'll don't believe, the Instant will do. Maybe Custom Web Publishing. How about to develop Lasso MySQL solution? Apart of Lasso license, everything else is free. You can start first in Lasso serving the FM solution and then rework that to MySQL instead of FM.
ryanzon Posted August 15, 2003 Author Posted August 15, 2003 You mean I'll use the web publishing plugin? Actually I'm trying to test it out on our network, the results are not that good. It dosn't show custom dialog box, other calculations and the most important, 3rd party plugins won't work. Do you have any links on a tutorial of customizing the web publishing? What is lasso? Is it easy to use?
Anatoli Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 There is CDML reference database and then some articles and sample files on this site. Lasso is at www.blueworld.com IMHO it is easiest web programming language, but also the most powerful!
