Batfastad Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Anyone know where the FileMaker username value is stored? Is it a consistent location or would it vary between installations, computer/network user names and between win2000 and winxp? All our users are using FMP5.5. I've had a dig about in the Documents and Settings folders, Local Settings and Application Data but found nothing. I'm therefore assuming it must use the registry but where abouts? Just thinking that I'll be able to write a script in windows, not filemaker, that can display a dialog, then edit the registry. Obviously the registry key would have to be the same for every installation. Any ideas?
Batfastad Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 I know that but where on a user's system is it stored? Is it in the registry or a hidden text file somewhere?
jfmcel Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Where it is stored, who knows, but you will find it in the FM application preferences. It seems to me that you can use SecureFM to at least prevent it from being modified. [i know you're using 5.5, but with FM 7 the user name is rendered obsolete. Interestingly, FM 7 IWP appears to return the account name for the users name.]

Batfastad Posted April 29, 2004 Author Posted April 29, 2004 Just had a look in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareFileMaker5.5Preferences and there it is. Michael, do you have any idea what the File Dropped, Show Mac Accelerators, Window keys do in that same registry folder? Thanks
Michael Myett Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Sorry, not really. The Mac Accelerators have something to do with keyboard shortcuts, I think, and has a value of either 0 or 1 so it's either on or off.
