Mike G Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Made an earlier post and couldn't find it... Can someone help me with 7.03 update installation? Downloaded the huge file and tried to install it by clicking the setup.exe file. When I did I got..... Windows Installer Dialog box saying... Incorrect command line parameters Windows Installer v2.00.2600.1106 Portions of software are based in part on work of independent JPEG group. All I can do is click OK and close the dialog box. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Mike
transpower Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Sounds like something went wrong in the download...try again or get the CD.
Mike G Posted October 15, 2004 Author Posted October 15, 2004 This is the 2nd time I downloaded it... BOTH times I get the exact same error when trying to install it. Something is amiss for sure. Might just wait for 7.04... maybe that one will work
laker_42 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Did you unzip the file and then run the setup.exe? I got a similar error by trying to run the setup.exe without extracting the files to my desktop. HTH, John
Mike G Posted October 15, 2004 Author Posted October 15, 2004 Yes... unzipped it both times into a folder of it's own and tried running setup.exe That's when I get the error. I have 8 .mst files, the updater .msp file, the setup.exe file and a host of .pdf's in several languages.
keydash Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 Same problem here. However I got a successful update when I bypassed the setup file and went straight to <FileMaker Developer 7 v3 Updater / Files / FileMakerDeveloper7v3Updater> Al
Mike G Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 How do you go "straight to" <Filemaker Developer 7 v3 Updater/Files/Filemakerdeveloper7v3updater>
FMDuck Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Make sure that when you unzip that you use the extract feature rather than drag and drop. If you drag and drop, you don't get the directory structure and such errors are possible. If you still have the problem, run the *.msi file that is one folder down from the setup file. The setup file doesn't do much more than run that file.
mattlight Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 I don't have the filemaker.msi file - is this the one it is asking for from the NEW 7.03? It seems to me that it asks for the original Filemaker disk and then can't find the msi file - so what do you do? I didn't realise there was a post on this problem until now. If anyone else has experienced this problem and knows the cure please let me know! Thanks
mattlight Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Are you supposed to run the upgrade from desktop and not from CD? I burnt it onto CD at work to get fast internet - is it this that is throwing up errors? maybe I'll try to copy it to desktop and then when it asks for the original CD it will then continue with the original file it is looking for - that must be the problem thanks anyway
Ano Nimus Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Yep, that's most likely the problem. The MSI file it is asking for is absolutely the one that is on the original FMP7 CD. (A problem which has prevented me, so far, creating a server-residing mass-installer for this patch )
mattlight Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Am I right in saying though (yep, still haven't got around to trying it) that the new setup file is execurting a NEW Filemaker 7 MSI file to replace the old one (which it checks on original CD) and then runs the new one. If this is the case, and you want to roll out a server based update for the Filemaker 7, how about copying the Filemaker 7 MSI file from the original CD onto the server in it's own directory. Then, the first time you run the updater from a workstation, BROWSE to find it on the server HD and it will remember (in it's history) the locatioon of this file for every other workstation. Does this work for you? It's different from my problem but I would try that if i was in your shoes - lol thanks
