November 18, 200421 yr Newbies Filemaker Pro takes about 3-4 minutes to startup but once its up it runs ok. Has anyone ran into this before? I have read that it has something to do with the system fonts so so i reloaded them but still no luck. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe this is not even the right path. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. DK [[email protected]]
November 18, 200421 yr Author Newbies Hey thanks a lot, It worked! I really do appreciate it. Thank You.
December 21, 200421 yr You suggested cleaning out the temp folder. Do you mean the Win temp internet files, etc? Or, is there a specific FM temp folder? Thanks for a reply.
December 21, 200421 yr The ordinary Windows temp folder. FM creates temp files whenever it opens a file and deletes it when the file is closed. If FM crashes before the file is closed, the temp file is not removed. FM seems to test all of these useless temp files the next time it opens, which can cause a serious slow down if there are many.
December 21, 200421 yr You can find the location of your temp folder by going into a command line and typing SET TEMP Not that anyone asked me ... J
December 30, 200421 yr Any files that aren't currently being used can be deleted. It's easiest to clean the temp file directly after startup, before you open anything. Otherwise, you may receive the message that such-and-such file is in use and cannot be deleted.

March 17, 200520 yr Penny, As QuinTech suggests: Start -> Run Then type in "CMD" without the quotes and press OK. You should now be at a command prompt; probably C:something Now type "set temp" without the quotes and press ENTER It should display the path where your temp files are located. Jot down or try to remember the path. Now type "exit" without the quotes. Now you should be able to delete the temp files.
