Newbies dakern Posted November 18, 2004 Newbies Posted November 18, 2004 Filemaker Pro takes about 3-4 minutes to startup but once its up it runs ok. Has anyone ran into this before? I have read that it has something to do with the system fonts so so i reloaded them but still no luck. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe this is not even the right path. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. DK [[email protected]]
Newbies dakern Posted November 18, 2004 Author Newbies Posted November 18, 2004 Hey thanks a lot, It worked! I really do appreciate it. Thank You.
flora Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 You suggested cleaning out the temp folder. Do you mean the Win temp internet files, etc? Or, is there a specific FM temp folder? Thanks for a reply.
-Queue- Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 The ordinary Windows temp folder. FM creates temp files whenever it opens a file and deletes it when the file is closed. If FM crashes before the file is closed, the temp file is not removed. FM seems to test all of these useless temp files the next time it opens, which can cause a serious slow down if there are many.
QuinTech Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 You can find the location of your temp folder by going into a command line and typing SET TEMP Not that anyone asked me ... J
EllenG Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Which files can be deleted...just the .tmp files? Thanks.
-Queue- Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Any files that aren't currently being used can be deleted. It's easiest to clean the temp file directly after startup, before you open anything. Otherwise, you may receive the message that such-and-such file is in use and cannot be deleted.

Ted S Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Penny, As QuinTech suggests: Start -> Run Then type in "CMD" without the quotes and press OK. You should now be at a command prompt; probably C:something Now type "set temp" without the quotes and press ENTER It should display the path where your temp files are located. Jot down or try to remember the path. Now type "exit" without the quotes. Now you should be able to delete the temp files.
